Mission and Goals:-

The Clausen Memorial Museum is dedicated to preserving the history and telling the story of those who have lived and worked in Petersburg and the surrounding area. Established in 1968 the Clausen Museum is a private, non-profit corporation and is governed by a Board of Trustees. The museum employs a director and part time employees throughout the busy summer months. The museum’s collections of artifacts, photographs and archives span the history and pre-history of Petersburg and the surrounding area. The collection is conservatively estimated at 5,000 artifacts, 45,000 photographs & negatives and 200 archival collections. Collection strengths are photographs and fishing industry related items. Other represented collections include woodworking tools, domestic items, and artifacts documenting early 20th century businesses and societies. The museum’s goals are to increase public service, to make contributions to local history scholarship, and improve the museum’s resources for collections care and storage.
