About Us :

Any visit to Alaska 's highlights needs to include a visit to Haines and the Chilkat Valley of Eagles for pure inspiration from the scenic splendor, cultural history and artisitic expression. In the center of the Fort Seward National Landmark, first army fort built in Alaska, you will find the Sea Wolf Gallery, housed in an interesting trapper's cabin set next to a tribal house surrounded by totem poles, an expansive parade field, stately white buildings 100 years old, and marches of dynamic mountains rising out of the fiords.

Haines is the childhood home of Tresham Gregg; and now the site of his studio gallery, and never ending source of visual stimulation. Tresham's unique stylization in his artistic expression comes from an unusual background of involvement with Alaskan Native art, appreciation for the spirit in wild animals, and extensive experiences with cultures around the world. As one of the original group of young people who started the Chilkat Dancers, Tresham learned the principles and skills involved in creating Tlingit carvings and costuming at an early age. After studying art and architecture at Stanford University, studying fine art in Paris, and traveling around the world, Tresham returned to North America and undertook the production of his own masked dance group, performing on the West Coast for seven years. Tresham created elaborate theatrical masks in a number of mediums, wrote, directed and performed in a number of different shows and festivals. He also participated as an exhibitor in numerous craft and art fairs for many years.

Since returning home to Haines, Alaska in 1980, Tresham has operated his own galleries in Haines; as well as in Juneau, Skagway, and Edmonds, Washington at different times. His work has evolved into an elegant animated "spiritism" treating animal, human, and transformational themes in a somewhat impressionistic style, allowing the flow of graceful line to capture the spirit in simplicity. Transformation - the transcendance of our personal limitations with the help of animal spirit allies - our personal relationship with the essence of the world's wild aminals, becomes the primary theme in Tresham's recent work.
Tresham Gregg has been a practicing artist all his life. He now works in a number of mediums in his hometown of Haines, Alaska. These mediums include woodcarvings, silk screen prints, jewelry, and clothing designs, as well as some cast bronze sculptures. He also has designed a very popular line of cloisonne' pins.

Tresham started wood carving at age thirteen, and now produces wood items in a variety of different categories; including: hardwood wall sculptures, totemic masks, totem poles, totem figures, free standing sculptures; as well as birch plaques, pins, scarf conchos, and cooking spatulas.
